The Golden Circle Webring - How to Join

-----------------

Introduction: These instructions tell you how to add your page to the new Golden Circle, hosted using Ringlink. The old Golden Circle on Yahoo (formerly Webring) is only being maintained until such time as the migration of all present sites to Ringlink is complete.

If you are migrating your site over to Ringlink make sure that you specify the SAME SITE ID as you are presently using.

If you are adding a new site that does not already appear in either Golden Circle, send an email to Alan Glover to request a Site ID number to use. All numbers below 250 are reserved in advanced for sites moving from Yahoo, hence manual allocation of the rest for the moment. After migration is complete the assignment of Site IDs will become automatic.

If you wish to enter a page in The Golden Circle Webring then here are the steps you need to take:

Step 1: Ensure that your page is appropriate

Make sure your site is related to Amber in some way, no matter how subtle. This can include pages about the Amber novels, Roger Zelazny, the Amber Diceless Roleplaying Game or any other dicless roleplaying concepts, Amber related MUSH MUD MOO etc, Amber fiction or artwork, or anything in the spirit of Amber. Here we mean Amber in the sense of Roger Zelazny's creation, so if your site concentrates on the Courts of Chaos, it's equally welcome here!
You are free to submit as many pages as you wish, but please be sensible about it. Don't, for example, submit every page in your twenty page story set in Amber!

Step 2: Add the site

The URL for adding a site to the Golden Circle webring is http://www.chorazin.org/local-cgi-bin/ringlink/_newsite.pl?ringid=golden

Double check all the info you submit! There have been too many people getting their URL or their email address wrong, causing the submission to be rejected.

If you are migrating a ring from Yahoo/Webring, make sure that you have used the same Site ID - this is very important to my sanity!

I also advise you to use a different password for the ring to any other passwords you use; this is because the password may appear in the compound URL used to access the site management functions in Ringlink, and is potentially readable by others.

Step 3: Insert the code

Once you have filled out the above form, and submitted it successfully, you'll be invited to go to the Site Administration page where you can collect the HTML fragment that must be added to your site for it to function within the Golden Circle. You will also receive a confirmation by email.

That's it!

You will be kept in the queue for a week or so, so make sure that you have inserted the HTML code by then. As soon as I see that you have, you will receive another email about your ring membership. If you don't put it in after a week or so then you will be taken out of the queue and emailed an explanation.
