Shadows of the Realm

-----------------

Shadows of the Realm is a concept from the mind of Todd Rickel.
As it is his creation, I will let him tell the story...

From: Todd Rickel

I wasn't sure how many people would be interested in hooking up our Golden Circle sites. I'm pleased (and a little daunted) by the responses. As one person noted to me: this is not an attempt to bypass or even change the purpose of Robert Winkel's Golden Circle. His idea to form this group was, I believe, a stroke of genius. He wanted to hook up as many people interested in Roger's works and the resulting game together so that surfers could see that we have a nice sized community.

My idea for this email list was merely to allow those of us already involved in the Golden Circle internet sites to communicate among ourselves. I didn't plan for this to be elitist or exclusive, but I figured that we all had some similar interests and talents, otherwise we would not have spent the time creating Amber sites on the net.

It's a way for us to chat among ourselves about the books, games we run/play in, technical stuff about the net and web page designs, etc. Also, I hoped that with a somewhat limited number of people, we could carry on conversations without worrying about dozens and dozens of replies. There are good sites and listserves out there if we want that kind of communication.

We'll try this first as an email list, if it becomes too cumbersome for mailings, we have an offer on the table to use one of our members listserve resources. The advantage of a listserve is the potential for an archive... we'll start small and see what develops. This is not an attempt to create an alternative site because of bad feelings or anything. As I said, we all have some specific things in common and so....

...here we go.

I have created a site on my web page called SHADOWS OF THE REALM. I wanted to differentiate from Robert's Golden Circle for clarity's sake (and to make sure he gets credit for his inspiration). I will try to remember to send out each subject heading with SOR in the title so that those of us that get bombarded can quickly see that the email is from one of us. I've seen this plan enacted in other places... it never lasts, but hey, we have to start somewhere. *grin*

I will include a list of current memebers. If each of you could send me your http address and full name, I will send out another mailer so we each know where our sites are located.

The other thing that I had mentioned was creating some shadows of the realm ourselves. Some unique places that those of us who GM (some on the list are players, others just love the books but do not game) could play around with in our own games. I plan on placing each of the shadows you send out on my web page. I'll send out a template that I will be using for my page. If you want to make a unique SOR, you can fill out the "form" and send it out. I will place it on my site, others may wish to do something like this as well.

Like anything on the web, if we use each other's ideas, make sure we give credit to the author. Its just polite. I try my best to follow this, but occasionally I overlook something or someone. So we can keep each other honest.

Welcome on board! Hope to hear from you soon....
