Translators are a species occasionally seen attached to the Head of Horde Commanders. They are a drab green with a large single red eye on a bulbous head, very similar in appearance to a Terran octopus. Approximately 50cm long, they have twelve arms. Eight forward ones are actually tentacles and the rear four are articulated arms with sharp claws at the ends.

Of unknown origin, translators are adept at learning languages and can be easily trained to learn them. Not all translators are as skilled at translating. Some can do it word for word, and some recognise idiom.

Healers

Va-Shakk Healers appear to be plants, but are in fact sessile, intelligent animals. Approximately a metre in diameter, they look like amorphous white sacs with six green tentacle-like fonds coming out of the opening at the top.

Though they are effective healers, their power this is only known to work on Va-Shakk. On Humans, the Healer's secretions cause the skin to grow such that all orifices are sealed and the affected person dies of suffocation. It is thought that this was discovered by accident when a Healer was used on one of The Horde slaves. Jelene Anderson (Adept) is the only person to have effected a cure.

Approximately the size of a large dog, the Mellidar are a race of humanoids that have been enslaved by the Va-Shakk. They move around on all fours, but like many species of Earth ape can walk on their hind legs without discomfort as well. They are ruddy orange in colouring with vibrant red hair that grows on their shoulders, upper back and head. The head hair flows like a mane and grows to be as long as the Mellidar is tall. Apart from this, the Mellidar is hairless.

Facially, the Mellidar are pleasing and friendly to look at, being distinctly monkey-like, but with a larger man-like jaw and flatter, broader features. Their eyes are large and dominated by black pupils. Mellidar hands consist of four opposable thumbs.

The Mellidar serves no real function aboard Horde Ships, except as pets. They work hard to remain inconspicuous, but have learnt to access computer data banks. Many have learnt to read, and from human slaves, some have learnt English as well.

Though not capable of successfully fighting the Va-Shakk, the Mellidar are not above helping those who do. They were instrumental in the success of the attack on Cape Town by The Black Watch.
